Our beginning: We started after witnessing the struggles of rural schools—overcrowded classrooms, a shortage of books, and almost no science resources.
Our growth: What began with delivering school supplies has expanded into empowering children and women through education and opportunity.
Our approach: Faith-rooted and grounded in grassroots partnerships, we listen first—asking teachers, principals, and community leaders what they need—and act alongside them.
Our difference: This community-led model makes us unique in the nonprofit world and ensures our impact is lasting.

Michelle’s radiant smile uplifted everyone around her. Though gone too soon, her legacy of kindness and joy continues to inspire Smiles and Hearts Foundation.

Jane Boyd
Co-founder and lifelong educator, Jane has dedicated nearly four decades to empowering women and children through education and compassion. Her leadership and passion remain at the heart of our mission.

Our Success Stories

In October 2024, before the Smiles and Hearts Foundation had a name, Jane Boyd and Jeff Werner visited Reenpan Primary School in rural Limpopo. They brought simple gifts—books, supplies, and learning materials—but what they received reshaped their lives. As pens and pencils were handed to the students, their faces lit up with joy and hope. Each teacher received a small gift and a personalized note of encouragement, a gesture of shared respect and commitment. Thus, the spark for the Smiles and Hearts Foundation was born—turning compassion into action, faith into service, and opening doors of opportunity for every child.
